Maynilad Water Interruption Advisory: Affected Areas! 2023

The National Water Resources Board recently took action to address expected water shortages due to the impending El Nino phenomenon, which could cause water levels at Angat Dam to further decline. The Metropolitan Water Sewerage and Treatment System (MWSS) reduced its raw water allocation as part of these efforts from the previous 52 cubic meters per second (CMS) for the period from April 2, 2023 to June 30, 2023 and 50 CMS from July 1, 2023 to July 7, 2023, to 48 CMS. As a result, Maynilad, the water company in charge of Metro Manila’s Western Region, will receive less water than needed to maintain standard service levels. As a result, service will be disrupted daily in various areas in the Western Region starting July 12, 2023.

As raw water allocations decreased, Maynilad had to rationally ration the meager supply to match the water needs of affected communities. To cushion the impact of lower releases from Angat Dam, Maynilad has instituted several supply enhancement initiatives. In addition, localized rains in the Ipo River basin have helped somewhat by enhancing water sources. Despite the sharp reduction in allocations, Maynilad still strives to provide its customers with as much comfort as possible.

Daily service disruptions will only be in place between 7pm and 4am and, in certain locations, until 6am. Using this method, water can be supplied during critical daylight hours while being conserved at night, when demand is typically lower. By timing disruptions outside of the busiest times, Maynilad hopes to strike a compromise between providing water to affected communities and maximizing supply usage.
