Merriam-Webster has officially added popular slang terms like “rizz,” “simp,” and more to its dictionary…and netizens don’t know how to feel.

The internet is responsible for a lot of popular slang — some of which we’ve covered right here on Dexerto.

For example, the word ‘rizz’ took off in part thanks to Twitch star Kai Cenat as another word for ‘seductive’ or ‘flirting’. The term has truly exploded in popularity, even spawning spin-offs like ‘unspoken rizz’ and spawning a viral meme involving young influencer Baby Gronk.

Now Merriam-Webster Dictionary has added ‘rizz’, along with 690 other slang terms, to its ranks as official words.

“Rizz,” “Simp,” “GOATED” and more are officially added to the dictionary

On September 27, Merriam-Webster updated its vocabulary with a bunch of new words, including some slang like ‘jorts’, ‘thirst trap’, ‘beast mode’ and even ‘GOATED’.

Here is a short list of some of the more surprising words added to the dictionary:

  • Doggo: dog
  • Simple: showing excessive devotion or longing for someone or something
  • Bussin’: extremely good: excellent; special: delicious, delicious
  • Mid: not very good, not too bad: okay, meh
  • NGL: won’t lie
  • TFW: that face when – used especially on social media or in text messages to introduce a relevant situation or an image that evokes a particular feeling
  • Bingo card: a list of possible, expected, or probable situations – often used in phrases on one’s bingo card

Netizens were slightly shocked but mostly pleasantly surprised by Merriam-Webster’s addition of ‘juicy’ to these words, leading to some Funny reactions on social networks.
