Following her death, Kiri Allan’s mental health status became a hot topic online. According to reports, she has battled mental health concerns for most of her adult life. Additionally, before returning to the House of Commons last week, Allan was said to have taken a leave of absence due to personal and mental health challenges, as well as allegations of bullying.
Following a highly publicized split from her boyfriend, former Radio New Zealand broadcaster Mni Dunlop, Allan is said to have taken a mental health leave. In addition, she was accused of having a tense working relationship with several employees. Chris Hipkins, the prime minister, claimed to have spoken to Allan and believed it would be unfair to charge her.
Kiri Allan has struggled with many different issues beyond her mental health. After receiving a stage 3 cervical cancer diagnosis in April 2021, it was reported that Allan would be absent from the House of Commons for medical reasons. Not to mention, the most common type of cervical cancer is squamous cell carcinoma. Cervical cancer is the growth of abnormal cells in the lining of the cervix. Allan received many letters of support after this news.
After treatment, Allan announced that she was cancer-free in December 2021. She also encouraged others to get regular cancer screenings. Allan does not currently have any health issues, but it has been mentioned that she may have some challenges with her mental health.
Following accusations of reckless driving and refusing to follow police after a car accident, Kiri Allan resigned on Monday, causing a stir. The Guardian said Kiri was involved in the crash in Wellington which happened just after 9pm on Sunday. According to reports, Kiri was detained at the main police station. Allan was charged with negligent use of a motor vehicle and refusing to follow police after being detained. She has also been ordered to appear in court at a later date. According to the same report, Allan was issued a violation notice for a breath alcohol level exceeding a range of 250mcg to 400mcg.
