Evra was born on May 15, 1981 in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. His father is of Guinean descent and his mother, Juliette, is Cape Verdean. He was one of 24 children although he lost two of his siblings. He was raised as a Catholic and said his father had anti-Muslim views. Evra’s father was a diplomat and the family moved to Belgium when he was one year old. When he was three, the family moved to France and settled in Les Ulis, a commune south of Paris.

Just before the 2010 World Cup, he revealed that he had suffered from the support of the Senegal national team for choosing to represent France in international competition instead of the country of his birth.

Patrice Evra began his football career playing for hometown club CO Les Ulis. He had been on the street for many years and was brought to the club by his friend Tshymen Buhanga. Evra spent around a year at the club under coach Jean-Claude Giordanella. Evra previously played football as a striker and while training at Les Ulis, she went through a trial process with professional clubs such as Rennes and Lens. Following the results of the test, Evra was initially rejected due to his body size. He became a member of the amateur club CSF Brétigny, which was very similar to his work with Les Ulis. Evra went on trial with several clubs, most notably Toulouse and Paris Saint-Germain. He was eventually signed by the latter and became a winger.

Manchester United

On 27 December, French sources reported that Manchester United were interested in signing Patrice Evra and on 3 January 2006, Evra admitted he wanted to move to England to join Manchester United. The following day, Manchester United officially announced a transfer bid for the player, and then, on 6 January, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson approved that an agreement had been reached with Evra. Four days later, it was announced that he had officially joined the team for a transfer fee of 5.5 million pounds and a contract signed for 3 and a half years. Evra’s arrival shows that Ferguson intends to strengthen the club’s defense, which has suffered a heavy blow since Gabriel Heinze was sidelined.
