Patrick Quirke, a Tipperary farmer, is reportedly due to lodge an appeal against his sentence for the murder of Bobby Ryan in October. Bobby Ryan, also known as “Mr. Moonlight”, a part-time DJ, disappeared on June 3, 2011, after leaving his partner Mary Lowry’s house at around 6.30am in Quirke, Co. Breanshamore. Tipperary had denied being Bobby Ryan’s killer. Mr Ryan’s body was found 22 months later, in April 2013, in an underground runoff tank on Ms Lowry’s property rented by Quirke in Fawnagown.
The prosecution argued that Quirke “staged” the discovery of the DJ’s body after Ms Lowry tried to cancel her tenancy at Fawnagowan and that Quirke murdered Mr Ryan to revive a love affair with Ms Lowry. Quirke’s defense team claimed the prosecution’s case had not progressed beyond simple speculation. They claimed that Mary Lowry’s evidence was “inconsistent” and that she was “not a reliable witness.”
