A poker pro named Yen ‘Mars’ Shen was accused of cheating to win more than $3 million by using a special see-through deck of cards to see which cards players were holding.
Just when you thought chess had become the new hotbed for cheating allegations, poker is back with new allegations that one player used nefarious methods to win millions of dollars.
‘Wes Side’ Wesley and Nik Airball, two Hustler Casino Live regulars, spoke to PokerNews after discovering their friend, a player named Mars, was accused of cheating in a private game in Southern California.
According to Wesley, Mars brought his own special deck of cards to the game, allowing him to view the cards, along with the dealer and two other players accompanying him.
Poker players are accused of cheating by using transparent decks of cards
PokerNews reports that Mars last played the game in October and that Wesley lost a whopping $1 million in the game while Mars and his team made $3.1 million.
“After one game, we discovered a rigged deck of cards. The deck is a great cheat deck that you won’t find anywhere else. But we went into a very dark room and used blue light and then you could see the numbers on the back of the deck,” Wesley explains.
Nik Airball added to the allegations in an X/Twitter post, claiming that Mars brought a mechanical dealer to poker games in addition to the deck of cards.
In the text message from October 14, Mars said he would bring some decks of cards, but repeatedly denied cheating when confronted.
“Maybe you’re losing and don’t want to pay so you switch decks,” Wesley recalls of Mars’ reaction when the evidence was presented. “If we cheat, how can we lose?”
However, Wesley said this particular deck of cards could not be purchased in stores and that Mars had intentionally cheated in private games.
“It’s a new deck, and Mars admits this deck was never a deck in our game. It was a special deck and he admitted the deck had problems, but he didn’t know who brought the deck. The message said: ‘I can bring the deck to you.’”
To date, Mars has not responded to this allegation, but this is not the first poker scandal to erupt.
Last year, Robbi Jade Lew was accused of cheating by Garrett Adelstein after a bizarre card game in which she won a monster pot with only High Jack.
