In her “Feather” music video, Sabrina Carpenter danced through the halls of the Annunciation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, and it led to the parish priest being stripped of his administrative duties.

Sabrina Carpenter made some bold moves with her 2022 studio album, Emails I Can’t Send. From the title track to songs like “Nonsense” and “decode,” the singer-songwriter has established herself in pop music.

In 2023, the pop singer released a deluxe edition titled Email I Can’t Send Fwd:, which featured four new songs including the now-controversial “Feather.”

With the “Feather” music video, Carpenter found himself in trouble after filming at a sacred church in Brooklyn in September 2023.

Carpenter’s “Feather” video caused a stir in the Catholic Church

In “Feather,” Sabrina Carpenter dances through the sacred halls of the Annunciation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, a church located in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.

Wearing a black tulle dress and matching veil, Carpenter walked up and down the aisle of the church.

Despite the permission of parish pastor Msgr. Jamie J. Gigantiello, Diocese of Brooklyn doesn’t take too kindly to what is considered sacrilege.

Bishop Brennan stated that the Church was “appalled” by what they saw, noting that “the parish did not follow the Diocese policy regarding filming on Church property, including the review of footage and script”.

Several other scenes in the video have caused controversy, specifically the scene of two young men reading a book titled Tampons Should Be Free. In another scene, Carpenter witnesses a massacre in a gym and is sprayed with blood.

Gigantiello was later released a lengthy apology and took “full responsibility” for filming the video. “I sincerely apologize to our faithful parishioners for this shameful representation, which I wholeheartedly renounce,” he wrote. “I ask that following the example of Christ’s forgiveness, you may forgive my negligence in this unfortunate matter.”

As of this writing, Sabrina Carpenter has yet to issue a statement of her own.
