A Subway employee has gone viral after sharing how he fell for a fake customer prank – with viewers calling the stunt “messy” and “diabolical”.
According to a report by the UCLA Labor Center, the fast food industry is an “economic giant” in which workers face a series of challenges.
So it’s understandable that the last thing these employees want is for their time to be wasted.
However, that’s exactly what happened to this Subway employee when he recounted a “messy” joke made by a fake customer on TikTok.
Preston Walker took to social media shortly after his shift at Subway was interrupted by this man’s “diabolical” plan.
“A man just walked into our store and he gave me this piece of paper,” Walker said, holding up a detailed order scrawled on an envelope. The man then went outside to “smoke a quick cigarette,” with Walker agreeing to go to work without asking for payment in advance.
Luckily, having started with just two of six sandwiches, he was soon interrupted by a colleague who pointed out that “there wasn’t a single man smoking outside”.
“We are 100 percent sure he came and pranked us and it was a stupid thing to do,” Walker said.

The TikTok quickly went viral, racking up nearly two million views. However, reactions were largely mixed. While some said it was “so wrong” to go through “so much trouble” over a joke, others said Walker should take the experience as a lesson.
“I worked at Subway 23 years ago; I won’t even cut the bread until he comes back or I’ll make him pay first,” one person said.
Another commenter had a completely different response; “I watch too many movies because before he joked, my first thought was [a] the spectre.”
It’s unclear whether the man returned as ordered. Check out all the latest entertainment news on our site here.
