At the King’s Coronation, Penny Mordaunt attracted everyone’s attention with her luxurious blue clothes, very different from the uniform of the sword bearers. On Saturday, May 6, famous people and figures from around the world were welcomed to Westminster Abbey for the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. It was a star-studded event with the Royal Family appearing to support the future queen and surprising guests such as Katy Perry. Penny Mordaunt, Leader of the House of Commons and Speaker of the Council was one of the surprise guests who made a big impression.

Many observers were interested to learn more about Mordaunt’s choice of outfit for the big day as she was dressed fit for royalty. For the coronation of King Charles III, Penny Mordaunt wore a ‘Roni’ dress by London-based brand Safiyaa in the color scheme Poseidon. The retail price of the teal dress and blouse is £1,195. Decorative details sewn by specialized Hand and Lock workshop are not included in the price. Some of the royal outfits for the Coronation were created by this atelier, which is famous for its partnership with the Royal Family. Jane Taylor, a seamstress, made Mordaunt’s hat. It also features a Hand and Locks embroidered fern pattern.
The first female swordswoman, Penny Mordaunt, was responsible for presenting the King with the jeweled sword offering and carrying the national sword. As the current President of the Privy Council, Mordaunt was given this responsibility. As a result, the former defense secretary made the unusual decision to dress in a “feminized” style, as she explained to Politico. The President usually wears a black and gold tuxedo. Mordaunt chose teal, which also pays tribute to her Portsmouth North constituency.
Mordaunt said in an interview with Politico that she “didn’t feel right” wearing traditional black and gold court attire. She explained that she wanted a more “modern” and “feminine” look, suitable for her situation and position. Penny Mordaunt decided to incorporate the Privy Council aesthetic in a variety of ways despite a departure from precedent in her color scheme. The scrolling leaf motif on Mordaunt’s Safiyaa outfit appears to be taken from the Privy Councilor’s outfit. The skilled embroiderers at Hand and Lock sewed this yellow onto the cap and gown sleeves. The Portsmouth North MP made a huge impression at the royal event, being dubbed the “Pippa Middleton of coronations”.
