A former UFC heavyweight champion has gone viral, but this time it’s not because of their fighting prowess. Instead, they made headlines after accidentally breaking a glass window at a convenience store in Las Vegas.
Known as one of the most formidable heavyweights in the MMA world, Francis Ngannou has a record of not only defeating but also destroying many of the UFC’s top fighters with his striking power.
Back in the day, when Ngannou and UFC CEO Dana White were on better terms, White had some wild ways of promoting him. “Francis holds the world record for hardest punch,” White once exclaimed. “His punches are equivalent to 96 horsepower. That’s the equivalent of being hit by the fastest possible Ford Escort. And it’s stronger than a 12-pound sledgehammer at full force from above. Oh my God.
But it seems that even everyday tasks, like opening a convenience store, can be a challenge for someone with Ngannou’s strength.
We’ve all been there: mistaking a sliding door for a push door. Often, the “Pull Only” sign will save our situation and our dignity. But for Ngannou there were no such signs.
Security footage shows Ngannou casually approaching the store entrance and trying to push the door open with one hand. When that didn’t work, he handled it with both hands, and that’s when the glass door gave way, leaving Ngannou staring in disbelief.
Quickly realizing his mistake, Ngannou opened the door and entered the store. However, the store owner was not very satisfied. He stormed out, pointed at the broken glass and gave Ngannou a piece of his mind.
It’s not every day that someone stands up to Ngannou, but this store owner refused to let the door slide without a fight. But after Ngannou agreed to compensate for the damages, the mood became lighter, and the two even took a photo together in front of the now ruined door.
But it seems like this is too good to be true, as some Reddit users are speculating that it could all just be a staged marketing ploy. “Security footage” shared by a new Reddit account was posted to a variety of MMA-related subreddits.
Comments ranged from “This promotional video is so catchy. There’s even that grainy loop effect. Funny but feels like fake news,” to “What is the perspective here? Promoting the Fury fight or the store?
Whether real or staged, the video has certainly stirred up conversation just in time for Ngannou’s upcoming fight with Tyson Fury in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 28.
