Arguably the most famous man in showbiz, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is back with another project that is sure to please fans. But this isn’t an action blockbuster like that San Andreas or Rampage. Instead, Rocky announced a new television series based on his wild upbringing.
Rock took to Instagram to announce his new show, dropping the trailer a day after the one-year anniversary of his father’s death. “I really wish my dad was around to see this movie. Maaaaan he would be so proud,” Rock wrote in his Insta post.
Young rock is the story of how Johnson became one of the most recognizable men on the planet. Set in the early ’90s, the show will focus on what life was like for the Rock as a member of one of the most famous wrestling families in history. Both his father (Rocky Johnson) and grandfather (Head Chief Peter Maivia) are WWE Hall of Famers.
The show will also delve into Rock’s high school years and his time at the University of Miami, where it seemed he might pursue a football career before wrestling became his number one priority.
Three different actors were chosen to play the former WWE wrestler. Adrian Groulx plays 10-year-old Johnson, Bradley Constant plays high school Johnson and Uli Latukefu plays college Johnson. The Fast and furious The actor will not star in the show himself but will serve as an executive producer.
Young rock will premiere February 16 on NBC. Check out the full trailer below.
