When it comes to streaming services, Netflix rules. Since switching from a DVD and Blu-ray provider to a streaming platform in 2007, the company has become a content giant. Netflix has more than 195 million paid subscribers worldwide, including 73 million in the United States. It is the largest entertainment/media company in the world and continues to pump hundreds of millions of dollars into new content.
All this investment appears to be paying off after Netflix revealed 82 million households around the world have tuned in. Bridgerton. For those who don’t know, Bridgerton is a period drama focusing on the Bridgerton family. Think of a sexier version Crown. Although it may sound a bit silly, this series has been critically acclaimed. It ranked as the number one show in 83 countries including the US, UK, Brazil, France, India and South Africa. It also reached the Netflix Top 10 in all 190 countries where Netflix is available (except Japan).
Viewing figures are based on the first four weeks a series is streaming on Netflix. In the month after Christmas Bridgerton surpassing the previous most-watched show, witch, with six million views. With the recent announcement of Bridgerton part two, it looks like this steamy movie is years away from being released.
