Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia returns in the dark and ominous trailer for season two of witch. Returning to screens nearly two years after its Netflix debut, this hit epic fantasy series focuses on the union of Geralt and Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan) and the hunt for the missing wizard Yennefer of Vengerberg ( Anya Chalotra).

The trailer was released during the inaugural WitcherCon event, a global three-hour online chat between the show’s producers and stars. Watch the trailer for series two below:

The trailer shows Geralt taking Ciri to the ancestral home of the Witcher’s school of Wolf: Kaer Morhen, where Geralt learns his craft under the guidance of Vesemir. Of course, things don’t go as planned and Geralt and Ciri find themselves surrounded by all sorts of creatures as they try to harness Ciri’s incredible power. The official synopsis is below:

Convinced that Yennefer had lost her life at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia took Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knew, his childhood home, Kaer Morhen. While the kings, elves, humans and demons of the Continent vie for supremacy outside the continent’s walls, he must protect the girl from something much more dangerous: mysterious powers that she possesses within.

“At the end of season one, we have what I think is one of the most moving scenes we’ve done, which is Geralt and Ciri finding each other after they’ve both been searching all season… And there’s it was like we had a father and daughter, and everything would be perfect at that point, except they had never met,” showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich explained during WitcherCon.

“I intentionally played the season in a way where he was in the wilderness and didn’t have the opportunity to have a lot of dialogue,” Cavill said. “I think it’s best to be the one who talks less because it looks like he’s thinking more. And that was the intention with that. But once you get into a scenario with Cirilla, Witchers and his home space and with people he already knows, I suppose you have to let him be more verbose, philosophical, talkative and wisdom, because that’s who he is. He’s not just a big, white-haired old brute.”

Along with the second season of witchNetflix has announced a spin-off, The Witcher: The Wolf’s Nightmarewill arrive on August 23.

witch season two will hit Netflix on December 17.
