Toyah Cordingley death penalty case
According to reports, Queensland police have told a Melbourne court they have DNA evidence linking a man extradited from India to Melbourne to the murder of Toyah Cordingley. 38-year-old Rajwinder Singh was escorted by Queensland Police on the Qantas flight arriving this afternoon. Within hours, Singh appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court where he was remanded in custody. Now the news is catching everyone’s attention again after 2018. Toyah Cordingley’s family were “delighted but overwhelmed” when they were told there was no firm timeline for Singh’s transfer to Cairns after a Melbourne judge granted the move.
According to old reports, Ms Cordingley’s body was found on a beach north of Cairns in 2018 and at the time, the incident shocked the community. Now, Rajwinder Singh is expected to face charges for Ms Cordingley’s murder. As preparations are being made for Mr Singh’s transport, his extradition hearing to Cairns has been postponed until tomorrow. Queensland Police Acting Superintendent Kevin Goan told the court Mr Singh traveled to India a few days after Ms Cordingley’s death.
Kevin Goan also added, “Investigators relied on DNA evidence to prove Mr. Singh was involved in her murder.” According to Acting Goan Superintendent, police also have telephone evidence showing the movements of Ms Cordingley and Mr Singh, as well as their personal mobile phones, which were traced west of Cairns. He wore a black turban and black jumpsuit and sat calmly in the dock while surrounded by two security guards. Now, he was taken from South Asia’s largest prison, Tihar Jail in Delhi, to Delhi airport, where he was checked in for a flight. Police also said he flew to the northern Indian region of Punjab on October 23, 2018, a day after Toyah Cordingley’s body was found.
