Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said the platform is phasing out lucrative streaming deals after engaging in a “bidding war” with rivals Kick and YouTube.
Streamers hoping to score a big deal from Twitch may soon be in luck as YouTube is also said to be moving in a similar direction to the Amazon-owned platform.
After years of Twitch’s dominance as the leading streaming platform, Kick and YouTube have made waves by signing some of the site’s biggest names to both exclusive and exclusive deals. non-monopoly, leading to bidding wars for talent.
As YouTube attracted big names like TimTheTatman and Ludwig, Kick made blockbuster deals with xQc, Amouranth and others, but according to Twitch’s new CEO, the strategy is unsustainable.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said the platform would avoid giant streaming deals after years of delivering reported seven- and eight-figure deals.
Clancy explains that this strategy has some limitations. “[It] created this bidding war and I don’t think it’s a sustainable business,” he said at TwitchCon 2023.
Kick/TwitchKick and YouTube are competing to find top streaming talent.
That’s not all. According to the report, two individuals familiar with YouTube’s strategy said the company will follow Twitch in shifting from signing talent to major deals.
Meanwhile, it looks like Kick won’t be taking a similar approach as it was just announced that NICKMERCS and rapper Tyga have joined the site.
However, Kick is likely to tone down the multi-million dollar signings as the Stake-backed platform implies that Dr Dispect’s $50 million worth of contract demands are too rich and talks judgment has broken down.
As Twitch moves away from the deals, the site announced that it will be doing away with multi-streaming rules and streamers can now broadcast on any streaming platform, meaning creators can broadcast on Kick and YouTube at the same time.
