A Twitch streamer shared how a former donor was able to get their $27,000 donation back, leaving their balance negative.
Twitch and streamers in general have a long history of donors getting their money back over the years.
Whether it’s a child using their parents’ money without their knowledge or a scammer intentionally clawing back payments, this continues to be an ongoing problem on the platform.
Famously, a Fortnite streamer shaved all of his hair during a broadcast after donating around $7,500, which was later taken back.
Now, another Twitch creator has suffered the same fate, this time with an even larger and older donation that was eventually refunded.
Twitch streamer’s $27,000 donation taken back
They revealed that a $27,500 donation from a former donor was refunded, leaving their PayPal balance negative.
Screenshots show them in the red for over $10,000; therefore, they must have approximately $17,000 before the money is recovered.
“This was a planned attack on a man who was definitely…stolen credit card,” they replied, adding: “It feels like every streamer goes through this Hey, it’s just my time.”
“No way that’s too bad, hope you recover or deal with it somehow,” one person said, as many other users commented showing their support.
“Someone did this to me about 2 months ago so I turned the option off, this is my worst nightmare,” another added.
One fan suggested: “A common PayPal scam is where they send you money as a business and then take it back, claiming that what they paid wasn’t what they paid for. what they want”.
The streamer replied: “Yeah, I think that’s what happened.”
At the time of writing, Twitch has not announced changes to how they manage donations on the platform.
According to Gothalion, Twitch CEO plans to address another aspect of their streaming service, which involves the embed feature that channels have been using to increase viewership.
