A Korean Twitch streamer has claimed that she will try to get banned from the platform every day until the site is shut down in the country.
Twitch previously announced that its platform would shut down in South Korea on February 27, citing “extremely expensive costs” as the main reason.
This unexpected move was met with widespread condemnation from the Korean streaming community, with streamer HAchubby in tears at the news, saying: “Maybe I need to move to YouTube and I’m not sure if How many viewers are watching me?
However, one streamer had a completely different reaction, instead pledging that she would wreak havoc on the site as long as she still had the chance.
Twitch streamer BVnoona commits to being banned
Twitch streamer and Korean content creator Beloved Noona, also known as BVnoona, has decided to take a more aggressive approach to the news, promising viewers that she will try to get banned. Use the platform every day for the next two months.
When a subscriber asked what she was going to do with the news, she said: “For the next two months, we’re working on our ‘let’s get banned’ goal. So every day, I will try to get banned. Of course.”
BVnoona, who is primarily known for her Just Chat content, also ominously mentioned that she ordered “five boxes of body oil.”
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy explained the decision to close its South Korean operations in a blog post, saying: “Twitch has been operating in South Korea at a significant loss. Our network fees in Korea are still 10 times more expensive than most other countries.”
