University forced to go ‘vegetarian’ after just 2.7% of students voted to ban meat 2023

Students at Warwick University have been forced to go “vegan” after a section of the school’s population voted to ban dairy and meat.

According to The Daily Mail, Plant-Based Universities, a campaign group, has pushed for a move to require campus catering outlets to remove meat from menus.

Problem? Only 2.7% of the school’s 28,600 students voted in favor of the ban and 516 voted against. Now, the policies are affecting people and their stomachs.

Opposition group the Rural Alliance took aim at the vote, accusing a “small minority” of supporting the decision and questioning whether it would actually benefit schools.

“Vegan campaigners are welcome to present arguments in favor of a plant-based diet, but dietary restrictions should not be imposed in university-affiliated buildings,” said spokeswoman Sabina Roberts. learn”.

The controversy spread on social media, where meat lovers expressed anger at the ban and questioned why one group could decide what foods were sold in schools.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, a spokesperson for plant-based Universities admitted that the vote was limited to shops run by the Warwick Students’ Union and that those opposed to the ban could still bring according to your food.

Next year, the school will adopt a 50% plant-based menu and will completely eliminate meat and dairy by 2027.
