She faced Republican newcomer Daniel Webster in a district considered a Slightly more Republican than his predecessor in 2010. Demings lost narrowly, taking 48% of the vote to Webster’s 51%. Demings was sworn into office on January 3, 2017. She is currently a member of the New Democratic Alliance and the Congressional Black Caucus.
