Starbucks fans may have noticed a special stamp emblazoned on their cup, which explains that the coffee they’re drinking is ethically sourced. But what does this really mean?
Well, according to Starbucks website, they are responsible for 3% of the world’s coffee consumption. This means they are required to consider ethical aspects in its production.
Their coffee is sourced from over 400,000 farmers in 30 countries and so they say “Our future is inextricably linked to the future of our farmers and their families”.
How does Starbucks coffee originate?
To ensure that their farmers were taken care of, they established CAFE
“This verification program measures farms against economic, social and environmental criteria, all of which are designed to promote transparent, profitable and sustainable coffee growing practices, while protecting the well-being of coffee farmers and workers, their families and communities.”
They say this system has allowed them to produce high-quality coffee while taking good care of their workers.
