Captain Mark Howard only joined Below Deck Med in season 1.
The cast and crew of Deck Med mourn the passing of their first Captain, Mark Howard. Here’s everything you need to know about his death.
Back in 2016, Mark Howard was the first Captain in the cast of Below Deck Mediterranean as they sailed across Greece. Before the program, Mark had 30 years of experience working as a yacht captain. The Australian star also loves to fly and got his pilot’s license just for fun.
He only participated in Below Deck Med for one season but still left a strong impression on viewers. Unfortunately, Mark passed away in October 2021 and the news of his passing left fans and co-stars feeling extremely lost.
How did Below Deck’s Mark Howard die?
Captain Mark Howard was only present on Below Deck Med in season 1.
The news of his death was announced to the public by his friend and co-star Tiffany Copeland. She tweeted “RIP Captain Mark Howard. You are a joy to be around. When fans asked for more details about his death, she refused to reveal anything else. “I don’t have many details at this time, but he passed away yesterday,” she wrote.
It is known that he passed away at his home in Florida and his family never revealed too many details to respect Mark’s private nature. Even his teammates remember him as a gentle and reserved leader. During Bravo’s 2019 Daily Dish Podcast, Hannah Ferrier was asked about Mark. Hannah had been the head hostess in the same season as Mark, so she knew him very well.
She said, “I really don’t think I knew what he was up to when I worked with him, let alone three years later. He’s like the opposite of [Captain Sandy Yawn]. He drove the boat and stayed in his cabin, which was amazing.” Mark was 65 years old at the time of his death.
