Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 kicked off with Bosun Ruan Irving having the worst first day of his life.

Ruan Irving’s first day as bosun on Below Deck Mediterranean ended in chaos. Not only did he encounter tragic news that left him completely lost, but he was also kicked off the boat by Captain Sandy for allegedly falsifying documents.

The alleged tampering could lead to serious legal consequences for the entire ship, which of course enraged Captain Sandy. “This is not okay,” Captain Sandy said in the confessional. “The entire ship could be captured because of one crew member.”

In the first episode of Below Deck Med season 8, fans were introduced to Ruan Irving. Ruan details his tragic upbringing, in which he claims to have run away from home due to growing up in an abusive family. Therefore, Ruan said that he had to rely on his friends to serve as his chosen family.

Midway through episode 1, Ruan receives tragic news regarding the sudden death of his best friend, who was once his older brother.

Of course, this information completely devastated Ruan.

“My friend passed away, he was more than just a friend,” Ruan began. “That is the brother who, whether good or bad, is always by my side.” He then added: “I don’t know what to think or feel. I lost someone who meant a lot to me. The first person calls you in the morning and asks how you feel. The last person you talked to… you know, it’s all gone.”

In addition to this heartbreaking news, Ruan also had paperwork problems.

First, his medical license was labeled “not certified” because he used a copy instead of the original. He also allegedly forged his Yachtmasters certificate because it had someone else’s picture on it. “Big red flag,” Captain Sandy told Ruan.

As a result, she told the bosun to leave the boat. Even though Ruan was given the opportunity to show his verified credentials, he ultimately decided to leave the show. “I don’t want to keep the ship anymore, so I’m going home and I don’t think I’m going back,” he told The Captain.
