A series of strange YouTube videos called Skibidi Toilets has confused viewers while simultaneously taking over the Internet. But what exactly are they? Here’s everything to know.
Have you ever found yourself falling down a strange YouTube rabbit hole that allows you to discover content you never even knew existed?
That’s what happened to one of our writers when he passed by the Skibidi toilets.
But what exactly are Skibidi’s toilet videos, which consistently receive around 100 million YouTube views per upload? Here’s everything you need to know.
What is a Skibidi toilet?
Skibidi Toilet is a YouTube animated series about singing toilet creatures who want to rule the world. It was created by DaFuq!?Boom!, with the first episode launching in February 2023.
The videos don’t really have much of a clearly told story but instead rely on visuals to great effect. There are toilets, made up of assets from Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source. These creatures have infected or taken over humanity and all that remains are suited individuals with cameras on their heads.
Each video is a tug of war between two sides. The cameramen figure out how to defeat the toilet, and in the next episode, the toilet attacks even harder. As you progress further, more characters will be introduced, including people with talking heads as well as mysterious telecasters that emit THX sounds to destroy enemies.
Since DaFuqBoom started uploading the series in February, he has earned 22 million subscribers and more than 8 billion total views on his YouTube account.
How are the videos made?
Inspired by the song choice in TikToker yasincengiz38’s viral video, in which he performs his version of belly dancing while being served mountains of food, bringing it to the forefront, the ‘skibidi dop’ meme itself dop dop yes yes’ by user Paryss Bryanne actually inspired the video series.
“I parodied her with the ‘skibidi dop dop yes yes’ meme. [The] Skibidi’s cleaning video is a random thing, just based on [an unexpected] head sticking out of the toilet,” DaFuqBoom told Dexerto.
Talking about how he creates videos, DaFuqBoom revealed he uses Source Filmmaker. When asked why he chose this particular program, DaFuqBoom said: “Easier access to different assets [and a] Great interface. I also know how to animate in Blender, but the whole process including lighting and rendering will take a long time. [three times as longer].”
He also makes sure to credit the content he uses in each video.
