TikTok users are going viral using the famous lyric “Have you prayed today” from one of Young Thug’s songs. Here’s everything there is to know about this trend.
Short-form video app TikTok has proven to be a powerful influencer in the music world, popularizing songs and starting viral trends in a matter of moments.
The latest song to go viral on the platform is by Young Thug and despite being released a few years ago, it has garnered a lot of attention this month.
Since early May, TikTokers have been creating videos using a catchy line from the rapper’s 2016 song ‘Gangster Sh*t.’ If you haven’t caught on to the trend, here’s everything you need to know about it.
‘Are you praying today’ the TikTok trend explains
There is no official trend or challenge tied to Young Thug’s song, but users are posting random clips of themselves or others lip-syncing the lyrics to “Have you prayed today.”
According to Know Your Meme, the catchphrase was currently going viral on TikTok in early May 2023, with TikTokers using a remixed version of the song with a purple-toned filter to reflect the aesthetic from the mid-2010s .
Many people are now participating in the informal trend of using funny or familiar situations to connect words in audio. For example, one post reads “Every time I come to check my bank account” while the lyrics “Today you prayed” plays in the background.
The TikTok remix of the 2016 tune is continuing to spread on the app as more and more people come across videos using the song, and to date the sound has amassed more than 30 million views.
It comes after the quirky ‘1, 2, buckle my shoes’ trend took the platform by storm, with creators creating hilarious spoof videos using the popular nursery rhyme 18th century.
