What is the phone ceiling challenge on TikTok?
TikTok’s ceiling challenge involves sticking your phone to the ceiling using some form of tape and jumping towards the camera above you.
The trend started after TikToker Michaelfirshort posted a clip of him holding his phone up to the ceiling before dancing with his friends from a top-down perspective. The video featuring JID’s song “Surround Sound” quickly went viral with over 5 million views.
Since then, the challenge has exploded on the app, with thousands of videos of others replicating it. Most posts show the creator swaying, but some users have chosen to get more creative with the trend.
The challenge includes a variety of activities, from singing and sleeping to performing crochet crafts and juggling basketballs, all recorded from a ceiling perspective.
Others have joined in on the trend by sharing hilarious skits. SamSpedy’s video of him being caught twerking by his mother has gone viral with a whopping 8.4 million views to date.
At the time of writing, the “ceiling challenge” hashtag has attracted more than 341 million views, while more than 60,000 videos have been made using the engaging audio from Michaelfirshort’s post.
