Netflix is positively brimming with exciting streaming movies and TV shows during the month of May. There are big-ticket new release blockbusters from Hollywood, a slew of classic genre films, and TV series newly released to pique people’s interest.
There’s also a limited release of the beloved series from Netflix, so be sure to check out the first season and start planning your binge-watching accordingly.
1. Back to the Future Trilogy (Limited Release)

Skinny person: Back to the Future on streaming is fun for the whole family – the original is a favorite from my childhood and has gone on to become one of the best franchises of all time with two sequels Great.
Join Marty, Doc, Biff and Delorean as they move back and forth in time to sort out the McFly family lineage while trying to avoid mishaps at every turn. Back to the Future works pretty well (except maybe for the hovercraft) but more than anything else, it represents the fun we’re supposed to have when watching movies.
2. The Best (1989)

Skinny person: There was nothing better in the late ’80s and early ’90s than watching a group of underdog Americans led by Eric Roberts sporting mullets go up against a major Korean Taekwondo national team.
It has everything; Hot sax and fight montages, leadership quandaries, Asian mountain martial arts schools, team-bonding bar fights, and some pretty tight action sequences in the ring. Sure, you know exactly what you’re going to get, but it’s 90 minutes of quality and giggles.
3. Mysterious River (2003)
Coming to Netflix: 1st 5th
Language: English
Skinny person: Sean Penn (Best Actor), Kevin Bacon and Tim Robbins (Best Supporting) star in this two-time Academy Award-winning film directed by Clint Eastwood. It would win more awards if it weren’t for the final Lord of the Rings cleanup.
Mystic River is tense and piercing throughout, combining a procedural thriller (based on Dennis Lehane’s excellent novel) with deep insights into grief and doubts in a small town. Driven by career-best performances from Penn and Robbins, Mystic River is an excellent film and should be a must-see for the month of May.
I would also highly recommend Lovely bones for another hardcore thriller with stellar performances (Mark Wahlberg, Saoirse Ronan, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon), directed by LOTR’s Peter Jackson.
4. Sam’s Children: Into the Dark (2021)

Language: English
Skinny person: In the summer of 1977, a killer known as the Son of Sam subjected New York City to a series of brutal murders. Ultimately, the Son of Sam, whose real name is David Berkowitz, is arrested and convicted, but journalist Maury Terry believes the murders are linked to a satanic cult.
Terry is adamant that Berkowitz did not act alone, having spent the decades since his arrest and conviction trying to prove that the shadowy network behind the murders went deeper than just Berkowitz. Netflix docu-series – this one has four episodes – are popular and well-made (think Making a Murderer, Tiger King), so there’s every reason to think this one will be great .

Skinny person: The success of adaptations of pioneering comic titles like The Boys means that more diverse (and even subversive) storylines are well suited to compelling television, and there are high hopes for Jupiter’s Legacy by Matt Millar.
The first generation of superheroes appeared in the 1930s and they are getting older, so they need to train their rebellious children to stand up to the supervillain Baryon. With pros like Josh Duhamel, Ben Daniels and Leslie Bibb on board, this is well worth a try.
6. Money, Explained (2021)
Release date: May 11
Language: English
Skinny person: Netflix’s collaboration with Vox on this $$$ is not only interesting, but also important. This series will take you through all kinds of situations to help you get a better handle on your finances without it seeming like your uncharismatic bank manager has put you back together. Whether it’s talking about taxes and savings, credit cards, casinos, cryptocurrencies or scams, there’s a lot of information presented clearly.
7. Oxygen (2021)
Coming to Netflix: May 12
Language: French/English subtitles
Skinny person: This sci-fi thriller stars Melanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds, Now You See Me), who is trapped inside some kind of high-tech medical device with only enough oxygen to last her life. 90 minutes before the oxygen ran out and she died.
Directed by Axendre Aja (Horns, The Hills Have Eyes), Oxygen will make you feel tense and nervous.
8. Love, Death and Robots (Episode 2, 2021)

The skinny: The success of the first anthology (which won five Emmys) meant it was only a matter of time Love, death and robots is back, this time with eight weird and wonderful animated shorts that delve into elements of science fiction, horror, fantasy, comedy, and completely absurd things (like a guy giant, huge, naked).
Created by Tim Miller (David Fincher is executive producer), Love, Death and Robots brings together a global team of directors and animation studios to advance and expand the medium, which means they we can enjoy the wonderful results of this animation innovation.
9. Army of the Dead (2021)
Coming to Netflix: May 21
Language: English
Skinny person: A zombie heist action movie directed by Zack Snyder, who just escaped the chaos from the final Justice League.
This film features an ensemble cast of cult heroes and “I know that guy” actors led by Dave Bautista and Ghost’s Omari Hardwick. All I know is this: “After a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries took their last bet by venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the biggest heist ever. so far.” I joined. This is going to get wild!
10. Eden (Part One, 2021)
Coming to Netflix: May 27
Language: Japanese/English subtitles
Skinny person: “No one should know there are humans here.”
The sci-fi fantasy series Eden is set thousands of years in the future, where a city called “Eden 3” is inhabited by robots whose previous owners disappeared long ago. . In this machine world, two robot farmers find a human girl and decide to secretly raise her in a safe haven outside of Eden.
The Netflix Original’s latest foray into Japanese animation is directed by Yasuhiro Irie (Fullmetal Alchemist) and features concept designer Toshihiro Kawamoto (Cowboy Bebop), so there’s plenty of talent to turn the new idea on its head. This batch comes true.
Bonus: Never Back Down (2008)
If you’re looking for something similar to The Best of the Best but from this century, there’s Never Back Down (2008) – about an MMA fight, a girl and a new kid in town, with All sorts of famous names appear along the way.
