Joan Vassos left The Golden Bachelor in the third episode of the spin-off series. This is why she had to leave suddenly.
The Golden Bachelor is currently airing its first season, following 72-year-old Gerry Turner on his journey to find love again. The retired restaurant owner was from Hudson, Indiana and was looking for a server after his wife of 43 years passed away.
Hosted by Jesse Palmer, the series focuses on singles over 60, with contestants like the mother of a former Bachelor.
During Tuesday’s episode, one of the content, Joan Vassos, received a text message asking her to leave The Golden Bachelor. Here’s what happened.
What happened to Joan on The Golden Bachelor?
A family member texted Joan that her daughter had just given birth. “It was absolutely not a normal daily delivery. Things got worse. Even when everything is fine, you still need your mother,” Joan revealed. “My family will always come first. Once you become a mother, you will always be a mother, even when your children get older. There is nothing more important.”
Gerry understood Joan’s decision to leave and said that “the right thing to do is the hardest thing.” The couple had to say goodbye after a one-on-one date where Joan won a Group Date talent contest.
After the episode aired, Joan posted on Instagram about her sudden passing. She wrote: “Once a mother, always a mother, I will always choose my children first.
A family emergency also forced Marina to leave before the second episode premiered. “I am a single mother, I have to choose my family and support my family’s needs at this time. And I’m sorry to leave,” she told Gerry.
The Golden Bachelor airs Thursday nights at 8pm ET on ABC. Episodes will also be available to stream on Hulu the day after premiere.
