Ontario officers are under fire after news of an inmate’s death. Reports say the prisoner died while awaiting trial at the Ontario Jail. The deceased was identified as Anthony (Anth) Peter Chatzimanolakis, from Canada. He was in the news after news of his arrest was published in the newspapers and multiple charges against him included motor vehicle theft, criminal harassment and loaded firearms without consent. He was in custody and awaiting trial, but soon after his death was shared online, leaving people shocked and asking what happened to him.

It’s clear that the Chatzimanolakis family is deeply saddened that Anthony left the world. After Anthony’s death, people were eager to know more details about it. Reports say he was detained on September 15, 2022 on charges including possession of a loaded firearm and vehicle theft. His case is still before the courts and Chatzimanolakis has not yet been sentenced. Chatzimanolakis’ lawyer Carmello Truscello said his bail review hearing has been scheduled for Friday, April 14, 2023 in Toronto.

Anthony’s injuries from the 2019 car crash began to rupture while awaiting trial, his attorney said. The prison reportedly scheduled surgery for Chatzimanolakis on November 3, 2022 at Sunnybrook Hospital but the surgery was canceled for no apparent reason. The report said he breathed his last on March 25, 2023 at the Toronto South Detention Center in Etobicoke. The news of his passing was officially confirmed by the Ministry of the Solicitor General. The department also said paramedics were called to the jail that day after staff observed an unresponsive inmate in pain in Anthony’s cell.

Additionally, they did not provide further information while the investigation related to Anthony’s death was ongoing. In addition, the deceased’s family also said that initial autopsy results showed that their loved one may have died after a drug overdose. However, that cannot be confirmed as the investigation is still ongoing. Allegedly, the Funeral Mass was scheduled for Monday, April 3, 2023 at the Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church. His family wants to know the cause of his sudden and unfortunate passing. Reports state that at the time of his death, he was 30 years old as he was born on November 25, 1992. He was the son of George and Lina and the brother of Melissa Chatzimanolakis. The whole family is extremely shocked and at this time, we can only pray for their souls to rest.
