Wisconsin state fair cow name
As we all know the Wisconsin State Fair is famous for its delicious rides, food, and drinks. However, a recent controversy arose when a cow named Jigaboo was awarded at the ceremony. After the incident, Americans were outraged by the use of the term because it was a derogatory slur used to insult African Americans. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the family exhibitor, Tianda Hildebrant, and the State Fair have apologized to the black community. However, the cow’s name was changed following a controversy at the Wisconsin State Fair over the dominance of racial slurs. On August 3, the Wisconsin State Fair began and will continue until August 13. A post shared on August 5, 2023 on the Fair’s Twitter account shows the cow named Jigaboo has won the Top Senior 3-year-old category.
However, in reality, Jigaboo is a slang term used as a derogatory and contemptuous term for black people. The word is defined as a combination of Jig and bugaboo according to the Online Entomology Dictionary. Furthermore, Jig has been a derogatory term since the late 18th century and bugaboo is a term used to scare a child, a favorite object of terror. However, a man from Pewaukee named David Blake walked candidly around the 172nd Wisconsin State Fair with his friends and family. He noticed a strange name, Jigaboo given by a cow, which surprised him so he took a photo and posted it online. David continued by calling out the state fair and saying it was one of those words, one of the few words that was completely banned.
It is known that a community activist named Vaun Mayes posted about the incident on Friday, August 11 and it caused public outrage online. However, the cow’s name has since been changed from the racial slur to make people wonder because they are speculating that this is an admission of guilt. The Wisconsin State Fair also removed exhibitor Tianda Hildebrant from its list of competitors. Hilderbrand’s family apologized to the entire black community on Friday night. Concluding the incident, Kerkson explained to the public that the Wisconsin State Fair plans to review its entry process so that such a situation does not occur in the future.
