One woman took to TikTok to share a ton of items she found for cheap prices at Walmart, which were said to be higher than Dollar Tree prices.
Dollar Tree is known for its cheaper food items, after all it is the store’s namesake. However, one woman went viral on TikTok after sharing a series of products she found at Walmart that were cheaper than their Dollar Tree counterpart.
In the video, Jenny said: “This is official information. Walmart has things cheaper than Dollar Tree.”
Gaining more than 65,000 views, she went around the store sharing some bargains at Walmart.
She recommends plain breadcrumbs for $1.22, tortilla mics for $1.12, blueberry and strawberry muffin mix for $1.12, a bottle of ketchup 14-ounce pickle for 98 cents and an 8-ounce bottle of mustard for 60 cents.
People weigh in on the Walmart/Dollar Tree debate
After the video was posted, people eagerly shared their shopping experiences at both stores. Many people agree with Jenny and say that Walmart is, in fact, cheaper.
“I agree Walmart is NOW!!!!! Cheaper than the dollar tree.”
“I keep saying this to my dollar tree and Aldi lovers,” another agreed.
However, some people were skeptical about Jenny’s claims, saying: “Literally nothing at my Walmart is less than a dollar, this is c**p.”
Others also asked incredulously, “Don’t most canned goods at the dollar store cost 70 cents each?”
Some even called the store directly and sarcastically said, “Walmart has this cute little thing where the prices on the shelves are different from the prices at the register.”
So is Walmart really cheaper? The answer, according to grocery and thrifting blog Living on a Dime, depends on what you’re shopping for. For example, they claim that party supplies are cheaper at Dollar Tree but spices and herbs win out at Walmart.
“Don’t assume Dollar Tree is cheaper just because everything costs $1,” the blogger says.
“The dollar tree isn’t cheaper at everything, but it can be cheaper at some things. Walmart is cheaper for a lot of other things. So if you shop wisely and choose the right store to buy the right item, you can get good deals.”
