Shell has been criticized for targeting a younger demographic following its Fortnite campaign promoting the use of gas amid the current climate crisis.<\/p>\n

According to NASA, 97% of published climate scientists agree that global warming is real and that humans are causing the problem.<\/p>\n

In fact, projections show that over the next 50 years, the tropics, coasts, and former arable lands will become increasingly unlivable, displacing millions of people.<\/p>\n

With this in mind, it is no surprise that a recent 2021 study found that 83% of children and young people between the ages of 16 and 25 feel humans have \u201cfailed to care for the planet.\u201d \u201d.<\/p>\n

And Shell appears to be looking to reinforce that belief with its latest marketing campaign promoting gas to young audiences through Fortnite and social media.<\/p>\n

The company worked with creators on Fortnite to promote its new premium gas with a map called Shell Ultimate Road Trips. Players must first fill up at a Shell gas station before starting and are encouraged to share screenshots of their gameplay online.<\/p>\n

Content creators on various social media platforms were sponsored by Shell to promote the campaign, and famous gamers were \u201cinvited\u201d to try out the map. Media Matters has identified at least six Twitch streamers who partner with the company:<\/p>\n
