According to a report from TechCrunch, social media platform TikTok will begin a test phase of uploading 15-minute videos.<\/p>\n

TikTok has firmly established itself as the leading social media platform for short-form content, with the majority of videos uploaded to the app being less than a minute in length.<\/p>\n

This has done wonders for the site and its ability to produce content quickly, and it’s a big part of how TikTok has been able to grow so quickly, especially during the pandemic.<\/p>\n

However, it now appears that TikTok plans to introduce features that allow for more flexibility in content creation for the site, such as creating significantly longer videos than before, up to a maximum of 15 minutes.<\/p>\n

TikTok outlines plans to expand into long-form video content<\/h2>\n

The social media giant revealed the new approach, which will increase video limits from 10 minutes to 15 minutes, which means creators will no longer be forced to split videos between two uploads.<\/p>\n

It’s unclear how successful the test will be as the average engagement time for a TikTok is extremely low. However, this change may appeal to certain viewers, and any additional watch time is good news for TikTok.<\/p>\n

The trial marks another significant development in the rivalry between TikTok and YouTube, the world’s largest video content site, both of which have encroached on each other’s territory.<\/p>\n

YouTube Shorts is clearly inspired by TikTok’s short, vertical format, while TikTok’s expanded video lengths and support for individual creators are a page out of YouTube’s book.<\/p>\n

Only time will tell if the new feature continues to work, but whatever happens, it seems like TikTok has no intention of slowing down its expansion.<\/p>\n
