While SpongeBob is clearly the face of the series, Squidward is a very compelling character in his own right. That’s because, as audiences get older, it becomes easier for them to understand him and his overall struggles. So sometimes it’s impossible not to feel sorry for him. In fact, this happens quite often because of the difficulties he faces. He’s a character who feels hopeless, and it’s very challenging to make him feel genuinely happy; so, naturally, he’s a loser to cheers from the audience.<\/p>
