Vyommitra is a female-looking humanoid space robot being developed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). <\/p>\n

It is expected to be included in unmanned Gaganyaan missions to perform microgravity experiments, monitor module parameters and support astronauts in manned missions.<\/p>\n

Vyommitra is a semi-humanoid robot with a robotic body and head. She has two arms and two legs, but her legs are not functional. It is designed to be able to hover in microgravity and communicate with astronauts and the Gaganyaan spacecraft.<\/p>\n

The humanoid robot was first unveiled on 22 January 2020 at the Bengaluru Human Space Flight and Exploration Symposium. It was named after the Sanskrit words “Vyoma”, which means “space” and “Mitra”, which means “friend”.<\/p>\n

Recently, Union Minister of State for Space Dr. Jitendra Singh mentioned on his Twitter that Vyommitra will be sent on ISRO’s Gaganyaan mission. <\/p>\n

Vyommitra is undergoing testing at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) headquarters in Bengaluru from 2021. <\/p>\n

The robot has been tested in various environments, including simulated space conditions. In the Gaganyaan mission, Vyommitra will be launched into space on the Indian Space Orbiter (ISRO). <\/p>\n

The robot will remain in orbit for about a week, during which time it will perform various tasks. These tasks will include testing life support systems, navigation systems and communication systems. Vyommitra will also collect data on the effects of space travel on humans.<\/p>\n
