About a thousand young people gathered in The Hague on Friday to protest against climate change. That Friday, a fraction of people participated in the protest compared to last year, the organization claims, due to a number of factors. “It is expected that during last year’s strike a large part of the participants were out of school,” explains Nuijten out. “And it is also the case that many young people already know that we have strikes and are organizing them. Maybe they feel that they are the first to strike, it is enough that the alarm will be issued.” <\/p>\n

Klimaatactivisten Youth for climate change would, therefore, organize different types of activities. “However, we felt it was important to do this on a Friday for a general strike. We would like to have more physical actions in the future.” <\/p>\n

“We have a klimaatkalender to be announced, in which young people present a new type of action every month so that we can start it. This month, for example, we had vega february, in which all participants are meat-free for a month.” <\/p>\n

Schools now, maybe it would be better to go to them with klimatstaking, <\/p>\n

Whether young people really have less and less freedom from school is not known, Linda Zeegers, president of the Association of Schools of Secondary General Education (Secondary Education Board), was based on this. <\/p>\n

Very few questions about climate were received, Zeegers said. “When the strike was first organized last year, we had a lot of requests from schools on how to act. So, asking the schools, for example, whether they, the students on strike or not, the social welfare officer in education had to report it. ” <\/p>\n

So there will be few phone calls this year, and according to Zeegers, that’s a good indication that protests have less bite among students. “However, it’s also possible that schools know better how to work with a must-go climate.” <\/p>\n
