Rally fans rejoice: The 2015 Subaru WRX STI is getting ready to drift on four wheels to a showroom near you.<\/p>\n

Subaru introduced this redesigned version of its most powerful car at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, complementing the base 2015 WRX introduced at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show.<\/p>\n

As always, the STI combines the practicality of a four-wheel drive compact sedan with the great performance of a rally car. Just look at those flared fenders, that functional hood, and that big rear spoiler.<\/p>\n

The 2015 WRX STI also sports a meaner front fascia than the Impreza on which it’s based, with narrower headlights (including LED low beams) that are inspired by the look of a raptor, according to Subaru.<\/p>\n

The front end is also shaped into a “nose cone” that combines the radiator grille and bumper cover into one piece, which is made of aluminum to reduce weight.<\/p>\n

The powertrain supports that aggressive look.<\/p>\n

While the 2015 WRX uses a new 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer and an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT), the STI sticks with the 2.5-liter turbo boxer from its predecessor, which produces the same 305 horsepower and 290 Nft of torque. and it is paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The STI uses the same stiffened chassis as the base WRX, which uses more high-strength steel than previous models, and has additional stiffening at key points.<\/p>\n

However, the STI has quicker steering: just 2.5 revs end-to-end, compared to 2.8 for the standard WRX.<\/p>\n

Drivers can use Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-Drive) to change the vehicle’s characteristics through three settings – Intelligent, Sport and Sport Sharp – with a rotary controller on the center console.<\/p>\n

The 2015 STI also comes standard with a multi-mode driver-controlled center differential (DCCD), which offers the driver six manually adjustable modes for different traction situations. The default ratio is 41:59 front to back.<\/p>\n

More alphabet soup comes in the form of the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction control system.<\/p>\n

With all these intelligent systems, the WRX STI should have no problem keeping all four wheels on the ground … even on the moon.<\/p>\n

The driver feels all that grip through the flat-bottomed steering wheel, and there’s a 4.3-inch LCD center screen to monitor key systems. Top WRX STI Limited models get leather upholstery and a premium Harman\/Kardon audio system.<\/p>\n

Subaru will begin 2015 STI production with a run of 1,000 Launch Edition models, featuring Subaru’s classic WR Blue color and gold BBS forged alloy wheels. If owners really use the car’s capabilities, that color won’t stay blue for long.<\/p>\n
