Popular streamer Felix “xQc” Lengyel has responded to accusations of making racist comments during a recent livestream.
Monkey, a now-defunct Omegle-like “random video chat” app, was a platform that allowed users to interact with strangers around the world.
The app has provided plenty of funny moments on xQc’s recent live streams, including one of the most “wholesome” moments when xQc gifted a gaming PC to an aspiring young streamer .
While most of the time, one can see strangers throwing playful insults at each other, one of xQc’s rants sparked controversy as some viewers labeled it “racist race” for alluding to slavery, causing xQc to respond once again with accusations of racism.
After a stranger started hurling homophobic slurs and other insults, xQc responded, “I can take my daily check and buy all your damn blood.”
xQc immediately realized the possibility of misinterpreting his words on live broadcast and commented, “I didn’t mean it like that. Don’t be weird about it.”
Despite this, a short clip of his controversial remarks has gone viral on social media.
Although similar to the way xQc playfully insulted other strangers on Monkey Chat, the comment was criticized by many on social media, who questioned the intention behind the comment.
xQc directly addressed the controversy during a recent livestream, reacting to Kaceytron’s comments, one Twitch streamer said“I wonder if he will apologize or continue to be an a**hole.”
xQc replied: “Wait a minute… She thinks she cooks here, but she says I’m an asshole.”
“I think this is about being a racist. So is it racist or is it an a**hole? Because if it was an a**hole, then I was an a**hole, and I will not apologize for that and I will continue to be an a**hole.
“But that’s not racism, so I can’t continue to be racist because it’s not like that, okay? That’s not what it is.”
Many social media users have come to xQc’s defense, claiming that the viral clip was taken out of context.
One user commented: “No, the guy on the left noticed that. This clip is out of context but he continues to disrespect XQC,” while another added: “He has used this ‘insult’ multiple times. Everyone knows it’s not a race.”
