Zack Snyder returns to the zombie genre with Netflix Army of the dead. After first gaining popularity with George A. Romero’s remake Dawn of the dead, Snyder has established himself as one of the more creative filmmakers in Hollywood. Even though he had more misses than hits, Army of the dead is shaping up to be a big-budget action blockbuster that is sure to please fans.

The film is set in Las Vegas after the zombie apocalypse. The official synopsis reads; “After a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries make their final gamble, venturing into a quarantine zone to pull off the biggest heist ever attempted.”

After reading this, do you really need any more convincing that this will be the movie of the year? Bautista killing zombies is like my wet dream. While the trailer doesn’t provide much information, setting a zombie movie in Las Vegas is a great idea. Sure, it’s been done before (Extinction evil resident), but this movie seems like it’s really taking advantage of this context.

This is Synder’s first origin story since Punch, and we all know how that turns out, so there’s bound to be some skepticism about this movie. But Netflix seems unfazed by their setup Army of the dead become a franchise. Along with Synder’s film, they are in production Army of the Dead: Prequel, starring Matthias Schweighöfer (who will also appear in Snyder’s film). There are also plans for an animated television series, Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, featuring characters from the film. Fingers crossed Army of the dead It turned out okay.
