Original John Wick, which became a phenomenon upon its release in 2014, has a legacy few action films can hope to match. That legacy, along with the many things that make the film so truly great, might also make it the best action movie ever made. Here are five reasons why it deserves that title:

He brought Keanu back into the mainstream

That’s why the dog’s death hits John so hard. It’s as if his innocence was killed in one fell swoop and he has to hunt down all those responsible.

His hero is not a superman
