Typing the word “boobs” into YouTube with unsatisfactory results is a teen’s right. That experience could be jeopardized by a niche community of dedicated peddlers violating YouTube’s restrictions on nudity.
YouTube is usually quite quick to take action against users who violate its myriad terms of service. Even actions outside of the content platform can impact users as seen recently following the Russell Brand allegations.
In particular, the website takes a particularly strong stance against posting nude and sexually explicit content. IShowSpeed was almost banned from YouTube after a recent on-air wardrobe incident.
With these tight restrictions in place, users have found ways to get around YouTube’s ban on objectionable content. 404 Media’s Emanuel Maiberg published an investigative report on hosted content titled “YouTube hackers” that you often find on another Tube of the red variety.
Maiberg infiltrated a group of “p**n hunters,” a group of netizens who seek out and publish explicit content to YouTube. One member of this group found a way to bypass YouTube’s censorship algorithms and avoid removing explicit material.
A user named “,” explained to Maiberg and thousands of users in a since-deleted video that you can overload YouTube’s tags section with special characters to change the way its algorithm plays display and interact with content. This method makes it especially difficult for YouTube to remove certain videos.
The exploit was shared between the compromised Maiberg group, and its members then flooded the site with videos featuring their favorite adult content creators. Thousands of videos produced by Sweetie Fox, the number one ranked performer on a given Hub, are still floating around YouTube.
Since news of the exploit gained attention on social media, many videos have been removed but not all of them have been removed according to Maiberg. It appears that certain users may use special characters to omit important identifying information such as video or channel titles.

Maiberg revealed some videos featuring Sweetie Fox have been on the site for several weeks and can only be removed by sending a direct link to YouTube support. Google has issued a brief public response to the issue but at the time of writing, these videos are still accessible.
“We are aware that a small number of videos may remain on YouTube after a channel is terminated,” a company spokesperson said. “We are working to fix this issue and remove the content from the platform.”
