One former Instacart shopper recounted how poorly the app performed for a year.
Working for a food delivery service has many perks. For example, you can choose your hours, you’re in the comfort of your car, and your favorite music will be playing all day while driving.
However, for Robbie, a former Instacart shopper, the work environment did not suit his preferences.
Since quitting his job, Robbie has taken to TikTok to explain all the reasons why working as an Instacart shopper isn’t worth the trouble.

The former Instacart employee put 30,000 miles on his car in one year
Robbie has worked for Instacart for a year. Although he no longer works there, he recently shared insight into what it was like working for the app.
In his viral TikTok video explaining the many reasons why he doesn’t advise anyone to work for the app, he begins by saying: “As someone who has made Instacart my full-time job throughout a year ago a few years ago, my mental health got so bad while doing Instacart as a full-time job, that I have never felt worse in my entire life.”
He said it was certainly possible to make $250 a day, but at what cost? He revealed that he spent more than $30,000 on his car and that it was also stolen during a delivery. Not only that, but you also have to work 8-10 hours a day to earn more than $200 in tips.
He then goes into detail about how the app offers no benefits or “protections” to employees, as a customer allegedly lied to customer support about Robbie not delivering an order their order when he insisted on doing so. His Instacart app was later deleted and he lost the ability to work with their services.
Robbie explains how someone also “hacked” his Instacart account and stole all of his money, leaving him empty-handed. He added that there was nothing customer support could do in this situation.
Robbie went on to say that working for Instacart is too competitive. Additionally, other employees may steal your order faster than you can accept it as your own.
Since quitting his job, Robbie has been keeping busy by sharing funny and relatable things on TikTok as he has over 224k followers.
Despite his long tenure with Instacart, he mentioned that he feels it is his “civil duty” to advise people not to work for the app, as he noted that the working conditions something like “survival of the fittest”.
