Asmongold explained on his stream why he wasn’t surprised by Baldur’s Gate 3’s numbers compared to Starfield as the two titles battled for players post-release.
Despite being released about a month apart, Baludur’s Gate 3 and Starfield have been neck and neck in terms of player count and recent popularity. Both RPGs have been a hit with the gaming community and are being played by some of the top creators on Twitch.
Although Starfield is not as highly regarded by critics or fans as Baldur’s Gate 3, it still tops the download and active player charts on Steam.
However, one game prevailed over the other, and streamer Asmongold said he wasn’t surprised by what the numbers showed.

While looking at the Steam sales of both streaming games, Asmongold pointed out to viewers the difference between the two games as BG3 was ranked 3rd and Starfield was ranked 4th .
Baldur’s Gate 3 peaked that day with 396,702 active players while Starfield lagged behind at a little under 250,000.
“I’m not surprised, I really am not,” he said. “I think you’ll probably see more because once the game becomes more popular, more people will hear about it and then they’ll play it.”
However, the comparison between the games really isn’t very fair because Starfield is available on Xbox Game Pass so the numbers are a bit skewed when looking at it from Steam’s perspective.
BG3 could have been on the Xbox subscription service, but the developers decided it wasn’t worth the risk.
Either way, Asmongold and the rest of the gaming community have placed their trust in Baldur’s Gate 3 as the better game so far in their respective lifetimes.
