Cale Crane Biography, Biography, Wiki, MovieCale Crane Biography, Bio, Wiki, Movie – “The Dreamer” does everything a thoroughbred and a sane, upbeat little children’s movie should. That trot. That trot. It gracefully removes barriers based on familiarity. It stands head and shoulders above most family films, delighting viewers with its lean pace.

“The Dreamer” tells the story of the Crane family and a broken horse named Soador (dreamer in Spanish) who helps heal the people who put their hopes in him. The story is based on the palpable chemistry between Dakota Fanning and Kurt Russell as daughter and father (and the uncanny resemblance between Russell and Kris Kristofferson as son and father).
Horse people, the Crans used to have a barn full of foals and colts on 200 acres of blue grass. That farm now consists of just a few fields and a house where Cale (Fanning), her parents Ben and Lilly (Russell and Elisabeth Shue) and her grandfather live. For most of Cale’s life there are no paddock horses in her.
Ben, a horse trainer, and his powerful father Pop Crane, a legend among the wealthy landowners who inhabit the rolling terrain, are in a covert conflict over how this downsizing came about.
We discover that horse racing is a royal pastime after all. And monarchs demand their servants, especially talented ones. Palmer, who is much richer than Prince Tariq, races thoroughbred horses that Ben trains for him. More appropriately, the prince enjoys competing with his brother, Prince Sadir (Oded Fehr), in horse races.
Disaster strikes after Ben finally gives in and drives his daughter to work. The sound of Sony’s spiral break replaces the roar of approaching horses as they enter the stretch.
The struggle between Ben, jockey Manolino (Freddy Rodriguez of “Six Feet Under”) and Palmer that reveals the crudeness of class in the world of races (and some of the racism in the class hierarchy) comes to an end.
One of Fanning’s talents is her ability to portray a character that conquers the world. This act of witnessing is helpful, especially when Cale sees Palmer rebuke her father. Anyone who has witnessed a bigger fish rebuke a father knows how mentally unstable this situation can be.
The thing about tragedies, according to “The Dreamer,” is that they often come quickly after high expectations. Maybe, just maybe, the other way around.
Adults familiar with the plots of old movies will be able to watch as we approach the Breeder’s Cup finals in suspense. Credit writer-director John Gatins for his assured directorial debut. Actors can feel freely because they are so gently and safely restrained.
