Daniella’s path to the culinary world was traditional. Like many, she started as a dishwasher. However, she has moved on and can now present herself as a chef, business owner and, of course, a streaming star.

Producers approached Danielle Harris Harris for The secret chef via DM on social networks. After a taped interview, Danielle had to record a 20-minute, continuous cooking video and was finally selected from a competitive pack of applicants. But even then, she had no idea what the show was about until the cameras started rolling.

It was kind of “wild,” she said. Like her, each contestant was genuinely surprised to explore their own lonely kitchen.

The cooking game competition was filmed on set in Atlanta over three weeks. The contestants are put through a series of challenges. For Danielle, those 12-hour shooting days were exhausting but exciting. Surrounded by passionate chefs like herself, plus a diverse production staff, she says the networking experience was “beneficial.” She keeps in touch with the chefs she met on the show through group chats.

Danielle recalled that one of the biggest challenges of the whole process was judging the food on the show and getting her stomach ready to eat 10 plates at 10am.

According to LinkedIn, Danielle Harris worked as a chef-owner at Small food studio in Washington, District of Columbia from March 2021.

Also, since January 2018, she has been working as the founder and creative director of Graze district in the Washington DC Metro Area and as Chef/Owner of DMH and Company since March 2015.

Starting out as a dishwasher, Danielle worked her way up to sous chef, went to art school, and then worked with Iron Chef Stephanie Izard in Chicago before coming to Washington DC in 2015.

Before that, between 2010 and 2015, Danielle attended Columbia College in Chicago.

After a brief stint at Emilie’s on Capitol Hill, she made a move during the pandemic to open a takeout sandwich shop Small food studio in Petworth. She named the sandwiches here after her culinary muses, mom, aunts, grandmothers and partner.
