‘Devastated’ Mason Greenwood ‘doesn’t know which way to turn’ after being dumped by Man Utd

MASON Greenwood has been left “devastated” by Manchester United’s decision to leave him – leaving him considering an offer from the Albanian club.

The striker, 21, and his family had been eyeing a return to the Red Devils after club officials indicated they were willing to give him a second chance.

But after the reaction of the public, the club announced on Monday that he will no longer play for United.

His hopes of resuming his club career at a high level were also dashed after officials at Italian Serie A side Roma and the Saudi Premier League side indicated they were no longer interested in signing the Prema star.

Following his suspension by United after charges of attempted rape, assault and forcible control were dropped in February, at least two Premier League clubs have inquired about signing him on loan.

But those clubs are now rethinking their plans as they consider whether any public backlash they are likely to get if they sign him is worth it.

Championship clubs are also believed to be monitoring the situation but are concerned that they too would not be able to cope with the PR situation.

So, at the moment, the only side that is reportedly interested is an unnamed team in Albania.

The Sun understands the backlash has been so strong that Greenwood – who became a dad in July – has been left “devastated” and fearful for the future of his career.

A source said: “Mason has always wanted to restart his career at the highest possible level.

“He hoped and believed that it would be with United.

“The strength of the feeling has now left him worried about ever playing in the big leagues again.

“Playing somewhere like Albania was never part of his plans, never.”

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 after disturbing images were posted on social media.

But his trial was halted after key witnesses retracted their statements.

United chief executive Richard Arnold said this week that the club’s five-month investigation had concluded that Greenwood had committed no criminal offences, but that he should leave Old Trafford for the sake of his career.
