The desert sands of Saqqara are full of mysteries. In search of one of them – an unrobbed tomb in an ancient necropolis – Dr. Mostafa Waziri began an investigation. Luckily for us, it’s all on display on Netflix’s Unknown: The Lost Pyramid.
Let’s get to know the researcher better as this Dr. Mostafa Waziri Bio continues.
Dr. Mostafa Waziri on the Netflix movie Unknown: The Lost Pyramid
Netflix’s Unknown: The Lost Pyramid featured two archaeologists, Dr. Mostafa and his teacher Dr. Zahi Hawass. The former was looking for an unlooted tomb in an ancient necropolis, while the latter was looking for a long-lost pyramid of a forgotten Egyptian king in “a patch of open desert.”
But this was no race. It didn’t matter who discovered first. dr. Zahi Hawass simply wanted the “next great discovery” to be “made by the Egyptians”.
“From the discovery of the world’s oldest cemetery to a heart-pounding look at the use of artificial intelligence in warfare, prepare to embark on an exciting expedition that will expand your horizons and awaken the adventurer in you,” read the series’ official synopsis.
Now, talking about Dr. Mostafa’s adventure on the show, his team was the first to discover the entrance to the intact tomb, which consists of coffins. Entering it, they found several statues that the ancient Egyptians used as magical protection, and they had to remove the statues before they could uncover the coffins. After more than 10 days of the restoration process, they encountered strange artifacts that they had not seen before – which are unknown to this day.
So, after removing the statues, they finally discovered a wooden coffin in the tomb. The coffin discovered belonged to a person named Ahmose, and had a bronze protective statue of a cat. Also, on the chest of the mummified body was a golden amulet of a bird with a human head and a well-preserved papyrus.
After three weeks of restoration, it was established that the 16-meter-long papyrus belongs to the “Book of Death.” It provided a detailed account of ancient Egypt and could potentially influence our understanding of Egyptian beliefs.
The papyrus is now called Waziri paper, in honor of its inventor, Dr. Mostafa Waziri.
