FIH World 5s Hockey Championship Oman 2024: In a grand ceremony held on September 3, the much awaited World 5s Hockey Championship Oman 2024 was officially opened amid a gathering of dignitaries and distinguished guests. The event took place in the picturesque city of Salalah, Oman, with the presence of eminent personalities including FIH President Tayyab Ikram, Chief Guest HH Sayyid Firas Bin Fatik Al Said and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth H.E. Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas.

In the men’s competition, the teams learned their fates as the draw placed the Netherlands alongside formidable opponents: Pakistan, Poland and Nigeria in Group A. Meanwhile, Group B will see India, Egypt, Switzerland and Jamaica compete for supremacy. Group C brings together Australia, New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago and Kenya in a fierce battle, while host nation Oman is set to clash with Malaysia, the United States and Fiji in Group D.

On the women’s front, host nation Oman have been drawn in Group A alongside Malaysia, Fiji and the Netherlands. Group B will feature Australia, South Africa, Ukraine and Zambia in a fierce battle of skills. Group C has set the stage for India, United States, Poland and Namibia to show their mettle, while New Zealand, Uruguay, Thailand and Paraguay complete the line-up in Group D.

FIH Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024 – schedule

As the world eagerly awaits this historic sporting event, 16 men’s and women’s teams from around the world are set to compete fiercely for the prestigious title of being crowned the first ever Hockey5s World Champion. The stage is set and the battlefield will come to life from January 24-31, 2024, as Muscat, Oman, will host this thrilling spectacle.

In a message full of pride and encouragement, FIH President Tayyab Ikram extended his heartfelt congratulations to all 32 teams who earned the privilege of participating in the FIH Hockey5s World Championship. He noticed,

“I would like to congratulate all 16 men’s and women’s teams who will be part of the record books as the first teams to compete in the FIH Hockey5s World Cup! You represent the best of Hockey5s, and will be a pioneer and role model for all future players who embrace this new and exciting format of our beloved sport.“
