“When I get to South Africa, I’m marrying Wayne in a week,” Holly said in the season five premiere. “I know it’s very fast, but we’re really ready. And we’re waiting until we’re married to have sex, so we’re excited to do that, too.”

For Wayne, it was a connection he had never felt, and he believed that Holly could be the one to marry. Within three days of meeting in person, Wayne proposed. He proposed to her and she ran away because Holly got scared.

Before that, Holly’s American mother went with her to South Africa with the intention of practically sleeping in Wayne’s bed to prevent any temptation. And Holly’s mother planned to stay for a full three months (so two months and three weeks after the hasty marriage), so it wasn’t going to be a quick trip either.

“I’m all for it because I want to start our relationship off on the right foot,” Wayne said of meeting — and living with — Holly’s mom. He also admitted it could feel “awkward”, saying: “You don’t want your mother-in-law around you, living with you when you first get married.”

In order to be with Wayne now, Holly has to give up her life in the United States and move to South Africa because Wayne won’t leave his job and his father. Her friends think it just can’t happen. Her friend told her that she and Holly’s family wouldn’t be able to help her in any way if she was ever in big trouble.

Holly has a first-hand experience of what her friend was talking about because she was mugged in Africa. The robbery took place during a blackout caused by a load on the electrical grid. After Holly left, Wayne was robbed again and Holly believed it was “the scariest place to live in the world”.
