Honeywell Home products will be sold by a new company – Resideo

By the end of the year, all Honeywell Home home comfort and safety products will be sold and distributed by Resideo, a new company.

Honeywell expects to spin off two existing divisions, Honeywell Home and ADI (a global distribution company), to form Resideo. The new company will be a separate business unit with a public listing. Resideo will market Honeywell Home branded products under an exclusive, long-term license from Honeywell for home comfort and security hardware and software solutions.

Mike Nefkens, current president and CEO of Honeywell Home, will lead Reside.

“A home is the biggest investment most of us will ever make — a place where we make memories for a lifetime,” Nefkens said. “Since the home is a central part of our lives, we expect it to be safe, comfortable and secure at all times. Resideo relies on Honeywell’s strength in providing the world’s best solutions to help people live more productively, comfortably and safely.”

If you think the new company name sounds somewhat familiar, consider the following two explanations for its origins.

According to Nefkens, “When we thought about a name for the new company, we knew it had to reflect our strong heritage, the promise of connected technology, and the deep commitment people have to protecting what they love most. Resideo combines the words ‘residence’ – your home – and ‘presidio’ – your fortress.”

The roots of the company name are Latin. “Resideo” is a Latin verb meaning “to recline, to remain seated anywhere, to remain behind, to remain, to rest, to linger, to linger, to reside, to reside,” according to Lewis and Short Latin dictionary. The international origin of the word reflects the global aspirations of the new company.

Honeywell expects huge growth for smart home products and software solutions. Resideo’s announcement included a reference to a Gartner study predicting 12.8 billion installed smart home devices by 2020, led by markets in China, North America and Western Europe.

“Through its iconic brand and unmatched presence in the home and low-voltage distribution markets, Resideo will be in an enviable position from day one,” said Honeywell CEO Roger Fradin.

“Resideo has several clear advantages: a range of innovative products and services, a sharp focus on its customers and a global level with a world-class brand,” added Fradin.
