How to customize your iPhone lock screen on iOS 16

As iOS 16 rolls out, Apple’s iPhone is getting more customizable. After allowing people to change icons in iOS 15 using shortcuts, iOS 16 introduces the powerful lock screen. How to edit iPhone lock screen on iOS 16

As mentioned, iOS 16 has a new way to customize your lock screen. Well, we say new, but it’s more of an expansion of what was there before. You can do this by swiping to the side in the lock screen selector or by associating a specific lock screen with a specific focus mode. Once that Focus mode is activated, the new lock screen and its associated customization will follow suit.

How to add widgets to your iOS 16 lock screen

With iOS 16, Apple brought widgets back to the lock screen. Well, not that they ever really left. However, apart from the widget screen that sits to the left of your lock screen, you can now embed widgets directly on the lock screen itself. This will be quite useful if you have an iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max with an always-on display. Third-party apps like Google are already rolling out with support for this new system. Combined with the integration of lock screen focus mode, this could make your iPhone a more powerful tool than it already is.

Step 1: Press and hold on the lock screen and tap Customize button. Select your lock screen when prompted.

Step 2: Pull the widget selector up by tapping on the widget area just below the clock. You can select up to four widgets. It can be a combination of two wide widgets, one wide widget and two smaller ones, or four small widgets.

Step 3: Save widget selection by tapping Done.

How to add photos to your iOS 16 lock screen

Using photos as your lock screen image works pretty much the same way as before, so we’re going to narrow it down to a very specific type of photo: the Photo Shuffle feature. With this setting, you’ll be able to select a handful of your own photos and allow your iPhone to view them without having to toggle the lock screen.

Step 1: Press and hold on the lock screen and tap the blue the plus button.

Step 3: Tap Select photos manually to choose your own photos or tap Use featured photos to choose the ones that iOS has chosen for you. Once Photo Shuffle has properly indexed all of your photos, it will suggest things like pets, friends, and similar topics.

How to add emoji to your iOS 16 lock screen

Apple also added a new emoji lock screen option on iOS 16. You can now construct a wallpaper using up to six emojis, as well as style them in different layouts.
